Photonics Applications Week – 4th edition – Innovation in photonics reaches out end-users

Eindhoven – The 4^th edition of the PHotonics APPlicationS (PHAPPS) Week will take place during the week 27 September – 1 October 2021, online and live in Eindhoven, Bleiswijk and Nijmegen, The Netherlands. PHAPPS Week is an umbrella event, geared towards the business professional interested in learning more about the practical applications of photonics in a particular field.

“When we took the initiative to organise the Photonics Applications Week back in 2018, we couldn’t foresee that so many partners share the idea and the importance that it is of paramount importance to bring end-users from different application areas and photonics professionals together”, states Pieter Hermans, CEO of Jakajima and initiator of the PHAPPS Week. “Despite the Covid-19 situation, a few of the events will take place in a hybrid form at several locations in the Netherlands. We look forward to meeting you during the week.” adds Pieter Hermans.

From farming animals to farming cells – is this the future? The Online Protein Transition Conference (June, 16, 2021, 14:00 – 18.00 CET) organised by Jakajima focuses on cutting edge research & commercial initiatives towards protein-rich alternative food sources.

It is very clear that a considerable portion of our protein is consumed through products from animal origin. This consumption is one of the key factors causing current routes for food production to be insufficiently efficient to feed the growing, and more affluent world population. Meat production is inefficient with respect to the use of land, water and raw materials and it has serious impact on the environment. With a growing world population and a global rise in demand for meat, we need to make a transition to high quality protein-rich alternative food sources, while simultaneously considering human health and environmental sustainability.
