Press release: How can the future of fashion become more sustainable – Online Materials 4 Sustainable Fashion Conference on April 20

The apparel industry has undergone dramatic changes in recent decades, but still remains one of the most polluting industries. The Online Materials 4 Sustainable Conference looks at apparel in a circular way. From the materials point of view new solutions and innovations are discussed – among the topics we mention: microplastics, microfibers, dyes, new materials, coatings, as well as recycling and design for circularity.

In the first part of the conference, Theo Verweerden, CEO of Lamoral Coatings, will talk about the development of an ecological, high performance Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating, while Professor Gunnar Seide from Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), will touch on the state of the art in sustainable fibre technology.

Later on, Nicolas Prophte, VP Denim Center, PVH corp (Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, IZOD, ARROW, Speedo, Warner’s and Olga brands), will speak about responsible denim innovation. In his presentation he will also elaborate on Tommy Hilfiger’s mission to create fashion that “Wastes Nothing and Welcomes All”.

Furthermore, Reg Nelemans, Founder and Owner of FashionPower will touch on sustainability solutions for sportswear for a good value for money price, while Marcel Alberts from Healix will explain how the company helps breaking the plastic wave by closing the loop on plastic fiber waste.

The complete program includes live presentations from researchers, executives and industry specialists from PVH corp, Lamoral Coatings, Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), DyeCoo Textile Systems, FashionPower, Wieland Textiles, Healix, Valvan and Recyclinnova.
