EIT ICT Labs and Jakajima combine strength in Health Tech Event at High Tech Campus

‘Innovation, Inspiration and Creation’ is the theme of the third edition of the Health Tech Event, co-organised by Jakajima and EIT ICT Labs. More than 300 participants from industry, academia, public authorities and the media are expected to attend this event on 9 December in the Conference Center of the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

Pieter Hermans, CEO Jakajima says: ’Health Tech Event, the 3rd edition, offers an even broader spectrum of ICT innovation in health. In an open atmosphere, health and tech professionals find each other here to meet, learn and explore the crossroads of science, technology & business in med-tech and sensors.’

Boosting the quality of life by accelerating ICT Innovation
Connected devices in the hospital and at home, robotic telemedicine, nanotube sensors; the health care industry is rising in a high-speed tempo. How can technology benefit healthcare? What is the current status? And what developments can we expect in the near future? Health Tech Event 2014 is organised around these questions and gives a showcasing platform to the activities of EIT ICT Labs’ innovation area Health and Wellbeing. The EIT ICT Labs activities in Health and Wellbeing leverage on partner owned ‘quantified self’ technology, market access and connected business communities.

According to Jean Gelissen, EIT ICT Labs’ Action Line Leader in Health and Wellbeing, ICT innovation is crucial in tackling the societal challenges facing Europe. Jean Gelissen continues: ‘It is important to reduce the demand for expensive healthcare by detecting small physical and mental health issues in an early stage and avoiding larger health problems by suitable lifestyle interventions. Breakthroughs enabled by ICT have to support the EU 2020 challenge to increasing labour participation and independent living with 2 year. Investments will pay handsome dividends not only in generating very viable and worthwhile opportunities, but, also in creating more affordable healthy ageing.’
